The Russian School of Newcastle offers a comprehensive program for children aged 4 to 16 who speak Russian at home and wish to improve or maintain their language skills.
Elementary Russian for Russian Speakers is intended for students who have learned to speak Russian at home or with family members but have little or no experience with formal study, reading, or writing. Students will master reading and writing in the Russian alphabet, solidify their knowledge of Russian grammar (including case endings and verbal forms), and expand their vocabulary. The course introduces Russian culture, literature, and history through authentic texts, websites, media (films and music), and supplementary materials.
Intermediate Russian for Russian Speakers is designed for students who have some formal study of Russian or who have progressed from the Elementary level. The course focuses on improving grammatical accuracy, expanding active vocabulary for abstract topics, and enhancing reading and writing skills. Students will engage with literary and non-literary texts of increasing complexity and work towards creating cohesive and organized written pieces. They will also deepen their understanding of Russian history, culture, geography, and traditions through authentic materials.
Advanced Russian for Russian Speakers caters to students aiming to achieve native-level proficiency and those planning to continue their studies in Russia. This program emphasizes in-depth mastery of Russian grammar and vocabulary and includes home reading of classic works by authors such as Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, Turgenev, Pushkin, and Chekhov. Advanced levels encourage the development of critical thinking and communicative skills through topics that resonate with students’ everyday lives.
Across all levels, our program incorporates elements of TRIZ (Theory of Inventive Problem Solving) and Creative Writing to foster creativity and problem-solving skills, making language learning both dynamic and engaging.
